Next Phase technician restoring heat in a Washington home

What usually causes it

Furnace will not start
Heat pump not heating
Thermostat dead or blank
Blowing cold air
Breaker has tripped
Igniter or pilot light out

How it works when you book

Is this actually an emergency?

Below freezing outside, or anyone elderly, very young or unwell in the house — yes, book it now. A house left unheated through a hard freeze can also put the plumbing at risk, which turns a heating problem into a much more expensive one. A house that is cool but safe on a mild evening can wait until morning, and we will tell you that rather than sell you a night call.

Quick answers

Try these four things first. They are free and they fix a lot of calls.

One: check the thermostat is set to heat, the temperature is set above the room temperature, and the batteries are fresh. Two: check the breaker for the furnace or the outdoor unit has not tripped. Three: find the switch on the wall or joist beside the furnace, the one that looks like an ordinary light switch, and check it is on. Four: check the filter, because a filter left in too long can shut a furnace down on its own safety switch.

Do not heat the house with the oven, a grill or a camping stove.

This is the one that hurts people every winter. Anything burning fuel indoors without a proper flue puts carbon monoxide into the air you are breathing, and carbon monoxide has no smell. An electric space heater is fine if it is plugged straight into a wall outlet, never into an extension lead, and kept clear of bedding and curtains.

What if I smell gas, or the carbon monoxide alarm sounds?

Those two skip us entirely at first. Gas smell: leave the house, do not touch any switches, and call PSE from outside. Carbon monoxide alarm: everyone out, call 911. Once you are safe, we handle the repair side.

How fast can someone get here?

We answer 24/7 and real emergencies get same-day priority dispatch. When you book you will be told what the day actually looks like rather than a promise nobody can keep. In a cold snap the day fills quickly, so getting the booking in early genuinely helps.

Will I know the price before you start?

Yes. You get the exact price in writing before any work begins, whatever the hour, and nothing happens until you approve it.

Get the heat back on today.

Book the visit. We find what actually failed, tell you the price upfront, and you approve it before anything starts.
