The Maintenance Difference

Maintained vs. Neglected

Year-round use means wear adds up fast. Service keeps it in shape.

Without Maintenance

Declining System

Efficiency drops 5% every year
Higher monthly energy bills
Unexpected breakdowns mid-season
System lasts 10–12 years
Warranty voided by most manufacturers
Small issues become costly repairs
With Annual Tune-Up

Optimized System

Peak efficiency maintained every season
Lower, predictable energy costs
Problems caught before they cause failures
System lasts 20+ years
Manufacturer warranty stays protected
Fewer emergency repair calls
Our Inspection

What We Check

Comprehensive checklist. Nothing skipped.

Refrigerant Charge

Measured against factory spec. Low charge kills efficiency and the compressor.

Indoor & Outdoor Coils

Cleaned and checked for corrosion. Dirty coils slash capacity.

Electrical Connections

Tightened and tested. Loose wires cause arc faults and tripped breakers.

Defrost Cycle

Timing and temp verified. Failed defrost = ice buildup and no winter heat.

Thermostat Calibration

Accuracy checked. 2 degrees off wastes energy and cycles the system.

Condensate Drain

Flushed and cleared. Clogs cause water damage, mold, and shutdowns.

Airflow Measurement

Static pressure tested. Restricted airflow is the #1 cause of compressor failure.

Safety Controls

High/low pressure switches and contactor tested. They protect against catastrophic damage.

Timing

When to Schedule

Most homeowners schedule once a year. If your heat pump is your only system, twice a year is ideal.

Spring Tune-Up

Before cooling season. Focus on what matters for summer performance.

Clean outdoor condenser coil
Verify refrigerant charge for cooling mode
Test condensate drain and pan
Check thermostat cooling setpoints
Inspect air filter and airflow

Fall Tune-Up

Before heating season. Verify what keeps you warm all winter.

Test defrost cycle and reversing valve
Verify auxiliary/emergency heat function
Inspect outdoor unit for debris buildup
Test heating capacity and temperature split
Check electrical connections and contactor

What Covington Homeowners Are Saying

★★★★★

"Had our heat pump tuned up before winter. The tech found a loose wire on the contactor that would have failed within weeks. Glad we caught it early. Professional and thorough."

"Five years of annual tune-ups with Next Phase. My heat pump runs like new and my energy bills haven't crept up at all. That's the whole point of maintenance, and they deliver."

"Tech arrived on time, spent about an hour going through everything, and showed me photos of the coil before and after cleaning. First company that's actually explained what they're doing."

"Our Carrier heat pump is 14 years old and still going strong. Annual maintenance is the only reason. Next Phase has been servicing it since year one. Highly recommend."

"Scheduled a spring tune-up and they found low refrigerant. Topped it off and checked for leaks — all good. Without the tune-up, my AC would have struggled all summer."

Heat Pump Maintenance FAQ

Once a year minimum. Twice is better — spring for cooling, fall for heating. If you only do one, pick fall.

Yes. Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Mitsubishi, Daikin all require proof of annual maintenance for warranty claims. No records = denied claims.

Refrigerant, both coils, electrical connections, defrost cycle, thermostat, drain, airflow, safety controls. 60–90 minutes.

Change the filter every 1–3 months and clear debris from the outdoor unit. Everything else needs a licensed tech.

18–22 years with annual maintenance. 10–12 without. Service is the #1 factor in lifespan.
