My house has no ducts. What are my options?
A ductless system. Slim units mount on the wall in the rooms you want cooled and connect to one small outdoor box. No ducts get built, and it heats as well as cools.
Is central air cheaper to run than three window units?
Usually yes. One properly sized system moving air through the whole house is more efficient than several small machines each fighting their own room. The saving is real but it is not what pays for the install — comfort and quiet are.
How long does a central AC install take?
Most straightforward installs are one day. If the indoor coil and the outdoor unit both go in and your ducts are in good shape, you are cooling that evening.
Do window units damage anything?
They can. The weight sits on the window frame, they let outside air past the seal, and condensation runs down the wall outside. None of it is a disaster, but it is worth knowing before you add a fourth one.
Can I cool just the upstairs?
Yes, and that is a common request in Puget Sound two-storey homes. A ductless unit in the upstairs hallway or the main bedroom handles the hot floor without touching the rest of the house.
