What the switch includes
One installed price for the heat pump side of the job. The oil tank is handled separately by a tank company.
- Load calculation to size the heat pump
- Oil furnace disconnected and hauled away
- Outdoor heat pump on a pad or wall bracket
- Air handler with backup electric heat
- Existing ducts checked and reconnected
- New thermostat set up
- Permit and inspection handled
- System started, tested and explained
What changes when you switch
A forced-air oil furnace and a ducted heat pump both heat through the same ducts. What changes is where the heat comes from.
The heat pump outside moves heat into the house, the air handler blows it through your ducts, and its backup electric heat covers the coldest nights. No tank, no deliveries, no chimney.
Good to know before you switch
Most oil furnaces already have the ducts
A forced-air oil furnace sends heat through ducts, and a ducted heat pump uses the same ones. We check that they can carry the extra airflow a heat pump needs. Sometimes a return needs enlarging.
The oil tank is a separate job
Once the furnace is out, the tank is pumped out and decommissioned or removed by a tank company, often with a permit from the local fire department. Schedule it after the heat pump is running, so you are never without heat.
Electrical capacity
A heat pump and its backup heat need 240-volt circuits. A 200-amp panel usually has room; a 100-amp panel may not. If the panel needs work, we tell you at the quote, and an electrician does that part.
What we don’t do
We do not do oil tank work, and we do not work on oil boilers or radiators. A house with no ducts can still switch to ductless mini splits, room by room.

How it works
- 1
Book online or call. Tell us it’s an oil furnace and roughly how big the house is. A photo of the furnace and the electrical panel helps.
- 2
We size it and price it. A load calculation, a look at the ducts and the panel, and one exact installed price for the heat pump side.
- 3
Install day. Oil furnace out, heat pump and air handler in, usually in a day. The tank company comes after.

Oil to heat pump questions
How much does it cost to switch from oil to a heat pump?
It depends on the size of the heat pump and what the ducts and the house need, with the oil furnace removed. Tank decommissioning is separate and done by a tank company, and panel work, if needed, is done by an electrician. Your exact price comes upfront and you approve it first.
Can I use my existing ducts?
Usually, yes. An oil furnace and a ducted heat pump both heat through ducts. We check the sizes, because a heat pump moves more air at a lower temperature, and fix any that are too small.
What happens to my oil tank?
It’s pumped out, then decommissioned in place or removed by a tank company, often with a fire department permit. We do not do tank work. Book it once the heat pump is running, so you are never without heat.
Will a heat pump keep my house warm in winter?
Yes. Our winters are mild, which is where heat pumps do best, and the air handler has backup electric heat for the coldest nights. Cold-climate models keep heating well below freezing.
Is a heat pump cheaper to run than oil?
In most homes, yes, often by a wide margin. A heat pump moves heat instead of burning fuel, and you stop paying for oil deliveries. It also gives you air conditioning.
How long does the conversion take?
One day for most ducted installs, two if the ducts need changes. The tank work is scheduled separately.
Are there rebates for switching from oil?
Programs change. Washington’s income-qualified programs and utility offers may apply, and we tell you what is active for your address when we quote. The federal 25C tax credit ended in 2025.
How do I get my exact price?
Book online or call. A technician reaches out within 1 business hour, sizes the system, and gives you one exact installed price before any work starts. You approve it first.
