Is 78° inside during a 100° day normal?
Mostly yes — a 20–22° drop from outdoor temperature is solid performance for systems sized to our climate. Rising past the mid-80s indoors, or ice anywhere, is when it stops being normal.
Should I set the thermostat lower to cool faster?
No — ACs cool at one speed. Setting 65° doesn’t cool faster than 72°; it just runs past your target. Pre-cooling early is the trick that actually works.
Why does my AC freeze exactly on hot days?
