Six things worth a second look
How it works when you book
- 1
Book the visit and tell us what you were told Or do not tell us, if you would rather we came in cold. Both work.
- 2
We diagnose the system ourselves, from scratch We do not read the other company’s paperwork and nod along. Our own findings, our own eyes on it.
- 3
You get our price in writing, and our honest read on theirs Itemised, before any work starts, and you approve it. Then the decision is yours to make.
Four things that are normal and do not mean you are being cheated
A replacement recommendation on a system past fifteen years is usually sound advice rather than a sales pitch. A big gap between two quotes often comes down to different equipment, not dishonesty. A technician refusing to restart a furnace with a real safety fault is doing their job, and you would not want the alternative. And a repair costing more than you expected is frequently just what that part costs. Plenty of second opinions end with us telling you the first company was right — more often than most homeowners expect.

Quick answers
Will you just tell me what I want to hear?
No, and it would be worthless to you if we did. A good share of second opinions end with us saying the first company got it right. What you are paying for is a straight answer, not agreement.
Do I have to tell you what the other company quoted?
Not at all, and some people would rather not. We will diagnose it ourselves either way. Telling us afterwards is often the more useful order, because then you know our number was reached independently rather than pinned to theirs.
How do I know your quote is any fairer?
You get it in writing, broken down, before any work starts, and nothing happens until you approve it. You are also completely free to take our number to a third company. We would rather you were sure than rushed.
What if you find something the other company missed?
We tell you, with a photo where one can be taken. That happens too. It works in both directions, and you should want to know either way.
Is it worth it for a small repair?
Usually not. If you have been quoted a few hundred dollars for a common part, a second visit costs you more time and hassle than the difference is likely to be worth. It earns its keep when the number has a comma in it.
Get a second number before you commit.
